Expert care to support recovery, enhance performance, reduce pain, and improve wellbeing

At ASH Wellness and Performance Ltd., we deliver tailored sports massage therapy in Lincoln and across Lincolnshire. Whether you're training hard, recovering from injury, living with a long-term condition, or simply seeking to relax and unwind, our hands-on approach is designed to help you move, feel, and perform better.

Overview

What Is Sports Massage Therapy?

Sports massage therapy is a targeted form of soft tissue therapy that focuses on muscles, fascia, ligaments, and tendons. While originally developed for athletes, it’s now widely used by anyone experiencing muscle tension, chronic pain, fatigue, or restricted movement; often caused by stress, injury, or long-term conditions.

Treatments are completely tailored to the individual. Some sessions are deep and corrective, ideal for long-standing muscle issues or athletic recovery. Others are gentle and restorative, helping clients to relax, de-stress, and sleep more deeply. Our approach always begins with a conversation to understand your body, your goals, and what you need from your treatment.

Techniques may include deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, stretching and mobilisations, as well as friction and percussion methods; all designed to support recovery, movement, and nervous system balance.

Injury Recovery, Movement Restoration, and Pain Management

Muscle strains, soft tissue injuries, and postural tension are common in both active individuals and everyday life. Sports massage therapy can improve blood flow, break down scar tissue, reduce inflammation, and restore natural movement.

We work regularly with conditions such as hamstring or quadriceps strains, Achilles tendonitis, shoulder impingement, lower back tightness, plantar fasciitis, and general muscular imbalance. For many clients, these treatments form a key part of their injury rehabilitation; helping them return to daily life or sport with less pain and greater confidence.

Our work also includes pre-event massage, aimed at warming up tissue and preparing the body for performance, and post-event massage, used to speed recovery, reduce soreness, and minimise fatigue after competition or training.

Massage for Relaxation and Stress Relief

Massage is just as valuable for the mind as it is for the body. Many people visit us not because they are injured, but because they are tired, overworked, and physically carrying the effects of stress and poor sleep.

Our sessions support relaxation by calming the nervous system, lowering cortisol (the stress hormone), and stimulating your body’s "rest and digest" response. This can improve sleep quality, lift your mood, and help you feel more balanced. Clients often leave saying they feel "lighter", "more in control", and "finally rested" after a good night’s sleep.

You don’t need to be training for a marathon to benefit; just ready to take care of your body in a way that restores your sense of wellbeing.

Chronic Conditions That Can Benefit from Sports Massage

Sports massage is increasingly used alongside medical treatment for a range of chronic health conditions. In our Lincolnshire clinic, we support individuals living with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS/ME), arthritis, sciatica, and more.

Massage therapy may reduce widespread pain and stiffness in fibromyalgia, support lymphatic drainage and improve energy in those with CFS, or ease joint restriction in osteoarthritis. It can also release tight muscle groups contributing to sciatica, such as the glutes or hamstrings, and improve postural alignment that may be causing back pain.

Even for conditions like multiple sclerosis (MS) or persistent pain after surgery, gentle massage can be used to improve circulation, reduce muscular guarding, and support overall comfort.

HOW IT WORKS

and What to Expect

Before your first session, we'll carry out a thorough consultation to understand your physical history, symptoms, lifestyle, and what you want to achieve. Every treatment is built around your body and your goals; no generic protocols, no pressure to book more than you need.

You can expect a combination of classic and advanced massage techniques. These may include effleurage (light flowing strokes to warm the tissue), petrissage (kneading and rolling), trigger point therapy to release tension in specific areas, myofascial release to ease stiffness in the fascia, and assisted stretching to improve joint mobility.

Afterwards, you should feel more balanced, more mobile, and more in tune with your body. Some clients feel energised, while others feel relaxed and ready for rest; either way, you’ll leave with a clearer sense of physical control.
